Java Software Engineer

(ideal for recent college grads)

Offerpal Media is a fun, profitable company in the advertising space that is solving some very interesting and technical problems. We are a highly successful 50+ person company with an engineering focus; we are expanding fast and are looking to add 10 new developers in Q409 who can come in and hit the ground running.

Overview

Offerpal is searching to find several recent college graduates who are looking to get into a great company on the ground floor. (Fresh graduates are welcome, as are engineers with several years of industry experience.) The ideal engineer for this role has enthusiasm, strong computer science fundamentals, a logical mind, and an active capacity to learn. We require coding stars capable of working in a team and throwing themselves headfirst into a role, and we give extra credit if you have some relevant industry experience.

Role and Responsibilities

We need individuals who combine great coding skills with logical thinking and a passion to do great things - a ton of relevant work experience is not necessary. As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible primarily for

Writing multi-threaded server-side Java and J2EE code for web-applications.
UI development with AJAX and similar technologies.
Coding of our platforms, systems and networking infrastructure.
Data design and flow across an SOA architecture and multiple databases.
As a Software Engineer, we expect roughly the following time split:

Coding/Hands-On Development: 85%
Technical Design/Specifications: 10%
Project Leadership: 5%
People Management: 0%

Your secondary responsibilities include:

Working collaboratively with product architects, product management and development management
Collaborating with other developers to scale and optimize the system
Assisting in testing regularly scheduled releases
Staying up-to-date with competing technologies and proactively discover solutions to problems
Working closely with the business development, finance, and customer service to provide technical support.

Professional Experience and Personal Qualities

Required:

BS, MS or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
Strong programming experience and skill in Java is absolutely required
Strong Object-Oriented Skills
Solid fundamentals of computer science, including algorithms and data structures.
Must be able to work cross-functionally in providing support for teams in sales, business development, finance, and customer support.
Flexibility, resourcefulness, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

Appreciated:

Database design and SQL are a bonus as well
Web-scale development experience in a startup environment
Experience in building Java/J2EE applications (Spring, Struts, Hibernate and other Java frameworks) on Linux/Unix, with MySQL experience a big plus.
Experience with Agile development methodologies (Scrum, XP, etc) and test first development is advantageous.
Coding Skills in JavaScript/AJAX or Perl
