Overview

Our engineers have experience and expertise in building and deploying large scale distributed applications and Web-scale optimization technologies. This role requires a UI guru with strong Flash and Flex experience, an active capacity to learn, relevant experience in Web-scale development, and strong emotional intelligence. We value a love of elegant code and the personal flexibility and enthusiasm to wear the many hats needed in a small company. We need someone with raw intelligence and the innate curiosity to seek out the answers to real world problems before they become a crisis. Above all, we hire engineers who love being engineers.

This is NOT a position writing games...but if you have experience writing games, particularly social network games on Facebook/Myspace/etc then that is definitely a bonus.

Role and Responsibilities

Offerpal is a 50+ person company with an engineering focus, and we are looking to add immediately 10 new developers who can hit the ground running. Offerpal needs UI developers who combine great coding skills, scalability, and an artistic flair with the passion to do great things. As a Senior UI/Flash Engineer, your primary responsibilities include the following:

Creation of Flash/Flex content for advertisers
Creation of custom Flash/Flex Component/Extensions using AS3 and/or MXML
Creation of JavaScript and AJAX and ability to integrate them with JSON and Java servers
Ability to write re-usable and scalable flash libraries
Overall responsibility for owning a module or key functional area
Primary coder for your own product/functional area
Primary designer for your own product/functional area

As a senior developer, we expect roughly the following time split:

Coding/Hands-On Development: 50%
Technical Design/Specifications: 20%
Project Leadership, Business and Customer Interactions: 30%
People Management: 0%

Your responsibilities include

Work collaboratively with the product architects, business development, accounting and customer service to provide technical support
Work with product teams to assess feasibility and priority of new features
Proactively recommend architecture changes and suggest new coding practices
Collaborate with other developers to scale and optimize the system
Assist in testing regularly scheduled releases
Stay up-to-date with competing technologies and proactively discover solutions to problems

Professional Experience and Personal Qualities

Required:

BS or higher in Computer Science or a related technical field (or equivalent real-world experience such as writing your own professional quality sites)
Excellent UI experience and skill in JavaScript is required
Excellent Flash/ActionScript skills, including re-usable libraries
Must be able to work cross-functionally in providing support for teams in sales, business development, finance, and customer support
Self-starter who manages multiple projects simultaneously and drives to completion
Flexibility, resourcefulness, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

Appreciated:

Experience in the gaming industry, particularly social games on Facebook/MySpace or similar (again, this position does not write games, but that is useful experience)
Web-scale development experience with a consumer-oriented website in a startup environment
3+ years real-world experience building production Java/J2EE applications (Spring, Struts, Hibernate and other java frameworks) on Linux/Unix, with MySQL experience a big plus
Work experience with Agile development methodologies (Scrum, XP, etc) and test first development is highly advantageous
Coding Skills in JavaScript/AJAX or Perl
